If coming primarily to South Beach, I do not recommend renting a car from the airport. I suggest going to your hotel and when you are ready to take an auto excursion or side trip, have the Front Desk rent a car for you from a rental agency that is located on the beach. You will avoid expensive valet parking fees.

Take taxis around South Beach! The distances are short and the taxis are plentiful and reasonable. Getting a car in and out of parking lots is inconvenient and will be expensive.

On your trip to South Beach, I suggest flying into the Fort Lauderdale Airport (FLL). They frequently offer options and more inexpensive flights than the Miami Airport (MIA) and the transportation (taxis) are reasonable.

A private Lincoln town car -available at the transportation kiosks in front of the airport- will probably not only be a luxurious ride but $10 cheaper than a taxi.  Also, they usually arrive immediately.
